Expand Your Horizons 2006 participants (artist-in-residence program)

April -  June

2006 marks our third year in running our artist-in-residence program here in Istanbul, Turkey.  As we learn from each year we also grow and each year we see more promising artists join our program.  This year we welcomed two amazing artists to Istanbul Noah Haytin, a native of San Francisco, California and Julie Upmeyer from Detroit, Michigan.  Both artists bring with them a vast amount of knowledge, skill in their medium and a certain niche that is just a right fit for Aden.

Noah Haytin

Noah Haytin is an emerging young artist in Southern California whose work has been chosen to be in group shows and publications by well-known artists and critics such as Kim Abeles, Chris Miles, Tyler Stallings, and Michael Duncan. His paintings and drawings have been published both locally and internationally in annuals such as Applied Arts Magazine and CMYK Magazine, and have been exhibited at venues such as The Armory Show in New York, The I-5 Gallery at the Brewery in downtown Los Angeles, and Acuna Hansen Gallery in Chinatown, Los Angeles.

Julie Upmeyer

Ms. Upmeyer has been involved with the arts throughout her life, from a young age she was involved with Arts & Scraps, a non-profit arts organization that uses industrial scrap as creative material. A graduate with honors from Grand Valley State University, her work as an artist has involved large-scale installations, interactive works and public commissions, several permanent works exist in locations throughout the States. She has worked as an event coordinator, arts instructor, project developer and has done freelance work as an exhibit, display and graphic designer.

Artist studio has been made possible through the support of The Grove Center for the Arts and the fees paid by the artists.
